How to paint your glass jars at home?
There are loads of glass objects simply calling for some painted art, from thrift store vases to jars destined to the recycling bin. It might be as easy as a fresh coat of paint or as exciting as designing bright patterns. Although painting on glass is simple, it does necessitate some special preparations and materials.
What you’ll require:
- Tools / Equipment
- Paint for glass jars
- Disposable Gloves (Cardboard, Paper, or Dropcloth)
- Materials for Masking Tape
- Glassware
- Glass-Friendly Isopropyl Alcohol Paint
- Brushes for painting (natural bristles are best)
Procedure:
1. Make the glasses:
Wash the glass with warm soapy water before you begin painting. If you’re using recycled jars, make sure the labels are free of dirt.
Isopropyl alcohol should be used to clean the entire glass surface. You can use a paper towel or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer to do this. Allow the alcohol to dry completely.
2. Acrylic paint is a type of paint that is used:
Many creative paints aren’t meant to work on glass, and you’ll need to coat the surface with a glass primer before using them. However, if the paint is designated as”all-surface paint,” there’s a strong probability it can be used to paint on glass. Before beginning any project, make sure to read the label.
You’ll probably need to combine the paint with an acrylic medium to thin it out enough to circulate inside the jar (not water). For this project, we utilized gesso to make the metallic paint more opaque.
After thoroughly mixing the paint and medium, carefully pour a tiny amount into the jar’s bottom, careful not to get it on the edges or top.
Spin the paint around so that it covers as much of the sides as possible. If necessary, you can apply extra paint, but not so much that the paint pools at the bottom. As the paint dries, roll the jar around to keep the paint from settling in one location.
3. Paint for glass:
Glass paint that has been specially prepared is usually opaque, and it may even come with outlining paint to allow you to create colored designs.
Simple brush strokes are a lovely way to paint a jar without requiring a lot of artistic ability.
Paint upward dabs or strokes in one color and then set them aside to dry. Add a second layer of strokes in a complementary hue to the first. You can also use multiple coats of paint to produce different hues.
4. Acrylic enamel paint:
Enamel acrylic paint is another product that doesn’t require any additional preparation and produces a beautiful finish that can be washed in the top rack of the dishwasher. Best of all, enamel acrylic in spray form is easy to come by for quick full coverage. Apply several light coats of paint to the jars outside. Make a floral arrangement with your painted jars, use them as candle holders, or put your pens and pencils in them. These techniques can also be used to add color to other glass items in your home.
