How to Teach Odd Numbers and Prime Numbers ?

If there is one thing that is truly uncountable are the numbers. The fact that they extend to infinity in both the directions, positive and negative axis of the number line and the fact that they lie between any two numbers, that too in infinite gives rise to the different categories of numbers in mathematics. The popular are the categories of odd numbers and prime numbers. 

Odd numbers are quite simply the numbers that are not completely divisible by 2. Any number which is completely divisible by two are called even numbers. Why this special importance to whether the number is divisible by two or not because it essentially gives us two different number patterns where each succeeding number is two more than the previous number. 

Odd numbers = 1, 3 , 5 , 7 , 9 , 11 , 13 , 15 ,17 , 19 , 21, 23 , 25 , 27 , 29 , 31 , 33  

Even numbers = 2 , 4 , 6 , 8 , 10 , 12 , 14 , 16 , 18 , 20 , 22 , 24 , 26 , 28 , 30 , 32

Another category of numbers that have been the subject of interest for mathematicians for a long time are the prime numbers. The reason for their attractiveness is that the puzzle to find the next prime number is still a mystery. Prime numbers are divisible by one or two numbers, the number itself and the number 1. Thus the definition of prime numbers is very simple, and we can see that the first few prime numbers would be 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23, 29, etc., but we cannot put a formula as to what the next prime number would be. 

It can be easily concluded that even numbers cannot be prime numbers as even numbers would always be divisible by two while prime numbers can only be divisible by 1 or number itself, although interestingly, number 2 itself is a prime number. With odd numbers, indeed, not all odd numbers are prime numbers, but the converse is true that all prime numbers are odd numbers. 

Hence we can see the definitions that these different kinds of numbers bring to the table. These can be clubbed under number theory. The term number theory can refer to a broad range of mathematical topics. At its most basic level, it simply refers to the study of whole numbers and how they interact with one another. The word “theory” in this case indicates that no one has proven some of these findings, and so they remain theories until, let us say, a new proof is found. There are many different branches of number theory. One important branch is called computational theory or computational number theory; this area of study has given rise to some very important results that we now use everyday as computers have become more sophisticated in their ability to handle math problems.

Math worksheets are a fundamental learning tool if kids want to learn about numbers. They are also a way for children to build up their math skills. Prime factorization worksheets are just one of the many educational activities that kids can learn from. It is important for kids to understand how prime numbers work before they can move on and do more advanced math exercises.
