How to Treat Hair Loss Effectively

If your hair is thinning or going all together then do not despair as there are a number of effective treatments out there that can help you to either restore it fully or to at least slow the decline. Some of the most effective of these treatments are listed below.

Transplant Surgery

In most cases of hair loss, it occurs on the very top of the head. By opting for hair transplant surgery or some other sort of restoration surgery, you are able to make the most of what hair you have left on your head.

The process involves the surgeon taking away the hair from another part of your head where there are still plenty of follicles that work and transplanting it to the spot that has gone or is going bald. The hair is either removed in micro / mini grafts or in larger chunks of skin that contain lots of individual follicles that are capable of growing hair.

This surgery does not need to be done in a hospital but due to how painful it can be, you will be sedated throughout it. This works to make it a more bearable process. Other than experiencing some discomfort, other risks involved in hair transplant surgery include swelling, bruising, infection, and bleeding.

It may be the case that you need several individual treatments of this surgery in order to get the desired effect and even despite it, if the hair loss is hereditary, then it will eventually occur again nonetheless. It is important to remember that this type of treatment is not typically included in your medical insurance.

Medication

Where hair loss is as the result of an underlying medical condition, treatment via medication is an effective way of stopping hair loss. When it comes to types of medication, the two most common for treating pattern baldness (that is hereditary) are Finasteride (available from this shop) and Minoxidil.

Finasteride comes in a small pill format and is required to be taken every single day and has the outcome of slowing down the rate at which hair is lost and in some cases has even been known to promote the growth of new strands of hair. However, it can take as long as three months before you are able to notice any signs that it is working. If you are over the age of 60, then its effects are not as potent.

Minoxidil can be purchased over the counter (rather than being prescribed) and comes in a number of forms – shampoo, foam, or liquid. To get the most out of it, it is important that the substance is massaged into your scalp at least once a day, but preferably twice a day. The best way of doing this is when in the shower when your hair is nice and wet.

It should be pointed out however that each of these medications come with their own set of side effects, which include things such as a loss of sex drive, an increased risk of certain cancers, plus several others.
